Summary:

In the beginning of O’Hara: Charity Means You Don’t Pick and Choose. Patricia O’Hara met a homeless man with her family, and the homeless man asked for the sandwiches which holding in her son’s hand. In this situation, she was unwilling to give the homeless. She changed her mind after her son said that he didn’t think she should give money to people like that. Reflection:

There are many charity organizations in our society. They always appeal and organize many charity activities. The charity organizations encourage people to give the money or handouts to the poor. Nowadays, the charity organizations hold many kinds of activities for people to attend. At the moment when we joined such as these activities, we should have rights to consider the charity organizations are worth to trust or not. Otherwise, what we do is like the wrong thing to do.

There are many organizations which we have rights to choose. We can donate the money, and we can give handouts as well. In recent years, being a volunteer is another choice for us to help the homeless or poor. These actions might help them more effectively than we donated the money or handouts to them. Obviously we know that we really did something for them, it also provides an opportunity for us to gain life experience. In the world, although there are lots of people who willing to join charity. Some charities cheated the well-wisher of their donation. We should have a careful understand to the charity’s background and information which we want to join or donate.

It is truth and corrects to help the homeless or poor. We should distinguish the people whose actually need your help, and we have to join a charity which is worth to belief. If our good intentions that in order to avoid the wrong thing to do. Just like the people said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

  1. Charities are mysterious organizations for me. Every time when I donate money or invoice, I am uncertain that my money and invoice is used to help the in need. The religious charities are obvious examples. The money we donate to them may be spent on building temples, churches, religious schools. In other words, we help those who believe in particular religion and pagans have no right or sometimes are unwilling to donate money to other religious charities that are different from their religion. There is nothing wrong with religion, but we should think about whether it is reasonable to help religious charities to building religious schools. Most religious schools are private schools and needless to say the tuition there is very expensive. If you donate the money to build religious schools, will religious charities guarantee that tuition of children’s studying there will be free or have discount? Do religious charities tell you that students graduated from their schools will be philanthropists or volunteers in their charities? In fact, they earn money from religious schools and the more money they earn, the more splendid temples or churches will they build. In conclusion, before you donate money to charities, you should know what charities will do for society.
