Ch2_Ordinary People Produce Extraordinary Results

Summary:

Ordinary People Produce Extraordinary Results, written by Paul Rogat Lobe, argued that our culture improperly shrine the heroes on pedestal instead of understanding the motive, the reverse process, and the grass roots’ effort.

Rosa Parks is the so called “mother of the civil rights movement”, and people regard her as hero for refusing giving her seat to white person on bus. However, she did not single-handedly in civil rights efforts. Before her there were considerable civil rights activities and order generation activists, she just at the changing moment.

The media represent Rosa Parks as a large-than-life figure and create dramatic standard, which ordinary people can not meet; nevertheless, by knowing Rosa Parks story should inspire our courage and conscience. The actual story is Parks attended a lot of meeting and kept on the profoundly uncertain context.

Social change is a product shaped together by people, who want have a better world. Sometimes the struggles may fail, but only when we act, we have to chance to develop the world.

Reflection:

Media mislead people to shrine the heroes and make people feel these heroes are large-than-life figures that we can not pursue the success like them. Actually, they all mortals and the reason they success is they work hard to challenge entrenched institutional power.

We should know is what the effort has be done and how the tactics was be used to get the success. From the story, we know people work hard together can create incredible power to make our life more better and of course everyone who devote to the activities is hero. The story is used to inspire us and we can get more courage from it. Different from the imagine, the media give us, the standard is so high that normal can not reach it.

Everyone can make the world better, only if you dedicate to do what you think is worthy, just like the good deeds to help people which is no limit for us. For instance, after 921 earthquake, the people from all over the world to Taiwan to help us. There is not restrict to what kind of people only. People came here for their sympathy or kindness, wanting to use their strength to help another country in the world. Taiwan recovered, the world’s people became more harmonious.

“You can break one chopstick but not ten chopsticks together.” Don’t look down on your strength. Your power is needed for mighty power.
